If you have a substance abuse one of the first things you have to ask yourself when you’ve come to terms that you need help is whether you should go to a detox facility, rehab or possibly both. The answer might not be easy but the decision usually depends on whether the person is dependent or addicted. While your brain might be telling you it’s time to get sober and healthy your body may still be under the influence of drugs. Until the brain and body are in synch, recovery will be difficult to accomplish. Sequoia Recovery Detox Facilities are designed to help your body and mind return to a sober, successful level of function.
What is the difference between Detox and Rehab?
Detox is the process of removing harmful substances from the body. This is done under medical supervision to ensure safety and comfort. A detox treatment can take an average of 3 to 10 days. There are many benefits to a detox program the treatment will cleanse your body of toxins leading to reduced pain and discomfort. The treatment will strengthen your immune system and help your regain your ability to control your behavior and manage your withdrawal symptoms.
Rehabilitation is a process of counseling and education that focuses on helping you stop using drugs and alcohol by addressing your psychological dependence on the substance. On average rehab can take up to 30 days to see improvement. Through rehab you’re able to receive individualized therapy and psychiatric services. You will also be taught a set of skills that will help you cope in cases of relapse.
Detoxing alone can be extremely dangerous, particularly if you’re addicted to depressants such as alcohol and benzos or opioids like heroin and oxycodone. Sequoia Recovery has well trained staff to help you and guide you through the physical and emotional process of detox. We highly urge you to seek help in our facilities as unsupervised detox can lead to severe nausea, hallucinations, seizures, coma and even result in death. By detoxing under our medical supervision in Sequoia Recovery, you will have a professional medical team monitor you 24/7. They will be present for you to ensure your safety and comfort at all times. If deemed necessary they can provide you with medication to alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of withdrawal throughout your treatment.
What is the process of Detox?
Detox is the beginning step to recover for drug and alcohol dependent clients. The detox process will vary on your specific substance abuse and what you’re addicted to. Regularly you will stay for 5-10 days in our facility to begin the process of detoxing. But before the detox treatment can begin you will need to be evaluated by our medical professionals to find out what substances are currently in your system as well as what levels. The process of pre-detox includes a screening for possible diagnosis of mental disorders, like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or other mental illnesses common to addicts. If a co-occuring mental disorder is discovered by our medical professionals, you will need treatment for both conditions. Once the pre-detox evaluation is complete you will then begin the process of detox in which you will be guided under medical supervision through drug or alcohol withdrawals. Medication is usually administered by our staff to make your treatment more comfortable and in the case that the withdrawals prevent life-threatening complications. In the final phase of detox once withdrawal symptoms have passed or are completely controlled, you will be guided into rehab. Drug detox resolves the physical chemical dependency; drug rehab deals with the psychological roots of drug addiction. We recommend this detox to rehab program to our patients to ensure sobriety.
