When you decide to enter a rehabilitation program for drug or alcohol addiction, you’re faced with many options. Here are the differences between different types of rehab centers to help you make your decision.

Long-Term:

There are many types of treatments, one being a long-term residential treatment program that can take 120-180 days or longer. This type of program is designed to treat chronic alcohol or drug addiction by providing intensive and structured treatments. According to The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, long-term programs are more effective and associated with better outcomes. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) states that the best treatment for opioid addiction would be a long-term residential stay for detox, followed by tiered step-downs to partial hospitalization, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and then individual therapy along with group therapy.

Short-Term:

Short term rehabilitation patients average 2 weeks to 6 weeks in skilled care. Skilled care is health care given when you need skilled nursing or rehabilitation staff to treat, manage, observe and evaluate your care. Short term programs are most attractive for individuals who have a job and family to attend to. Short-term rehabilitation programs help patients achieve their maximum functional capacity and get back to their homes and community in the shortest time possible.

Outpatient:

An Outpatient rehab facility may be very beneficial for you if you have a mild substance abuse problem caught in the early phases and are serious about getting sober. Outpatient programs allows you the freedom to continue working and caring for family while in recovery but does require you to check into treatments during your allotted times. The general types of outpatient rehab fall into the following three categories. The first one being Day Programs, normally clients will commit to 5-7 days per week at an outpatient facility for several times a day. Patients may return home after their sessions, either to their families or a sober living home. Day time programs consider a more timely commitment and might not be the option if you have work, school or other responsibilities. Second type of Outpatient program is an Intensive Outpatient program (IOP) here you and your doctor will establish a treatment plan with defined, measurable milestones. Once progress is made by the you, the commitment required per week is decreased. Lastly there is Continuing Care, these are groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics anonymous that will help you solidify your commitment to sobriety. These groups are facilitated by a licensed therapist and meet weekly.

Luxury:

A luxury rehab center often offers a more individualized, luxurious, and often more private experience. There are many special offers that contribute to the luxury rehab experience including a smaller staff to patient ratio, specialized treatment, high-end amenities and exclusive locations. Though the price tag might be greater for a luxury treatment center you are guaranteed highly trained clinical staff, with specialized experience working with individuals suffering from substance abuse and disorders, not to mention the use of innovative and effective types of treatments.

State-Funded:

State-funded rehabs usually accommodate to low-income individuals or people who have trouble affording a higher-end facility. If you are interested in this type of program, keep in mind that you most likely will have to be put on a waitlist. You will have to meet eligibility requirements including proof of residency, proof of income and proof of legal status in the U.S. This type of facility can provide the lifesaving help you need at a lower cost. Unfortunately, when states experience shrinking budgets and they need to make cuts to state funded services, these programs are sometimes placed on the chopping block.

Private:

One of the central parts of addiction often overlooked is shame. Private rehabilitation centers provide anonymity and privacy. A private drug rehab can provide various benefits such as: an individualized program, smaller program sizes, a sense of connection, personalized attention, close supervised attention and no waitlist. There are a few things to consider that may be a drawback to you. These private facilities are costly and may eventually weigh a burden of debt. Another reason is, though, traditional rehab facilities are common, private ones are fewer and you might have to do a little bit more research to find one close to home if staying close to home is a priority.

Making the right choice for you

Ultimately you want to choose the best rehab facility that meets your needs in all your physical, mental, emotional and financial well-being. That means keeping some things in mind when researching for a rehab facility. How long you want to and can stay, this means having to make accommodations with family, friends and your personal life. What kind of treatment are you looking for? A facility that can offer substitute medications for addiction to opiates or a program that offers more holistic solutions such as nutrition, exercise for mental-well so that you can be fully sober. Aside from physical health you might want to find a program that also provides mental health options. Location, you might want to go somewhere far to feel as if you are really are taking time away from your real life or you might want to stay close to friends and family. You also want to take costs into consideration, there is no denying that recovery is an investment. But certain rehabs can be costly and though you may find yourself free of dependency, but then faced with the burden of debt. The additional stress can serve as a trigger to bring on a relapse. These are some key differences you want to evaluate when deciding what rehab facility is best for you.
